This year, to celebrate the Music Week, we have focused on vocal music: the music that we play only with our voices or where the voices play a very important role. We have learned that there are different styles of vocal music.
For example, we already know that in order to make music, we can sing, play instruments, make body percussion with our feet and hands, etc… But, could a band play music without any instruments at all? Of course, the a cappella groups imitate the instruments with their voices, like Pentatonix do (one of them sings the bass, the other the drums…). We tried to imitate some instruments too and we had a lot of fun!
We were also introduced to gospel and learned about its origins. We had a party at class dancing and clapping along to Lean on me. But we didn’t stop it there, we continued with the barbershop style and we had a blast listening to those funny harmonies. Then, we met the havaneres, the typical sailor songs about the sea that came from afar but feel like they were created here. And, at the end of the week, we finally listened to a big choir. We were very impressed that so many people could sing at the same time, without making any mistakes and sounding so perfect! Goosebumps!
Now we know that what we have to do is to work hard and practice the Christmas repertoire a lot to sound as good as they do! We will all be a big choir!
