At our school, more specifically at the stage of Educación Infantil, psychomotor education has a protagonist role. We believe it is essential to the integral development of our students because it contributes to the acquisition of motor and cognitive skills.
The psychomotor skill helps improve coordination, balance, spatial perception and self-control, among others. On one hand, it gives the students some healthy habits and a set of values with which they will grow and this links directly with school performance and behaviour. On the other hand, students see their self-esteem and self-confidence increase.
Small children, through games and movement, can understand how their body works and the relationship they have in the world. All of these are achieved thanks to the fact that children have fun while doing so. Moreover, speech and communication in general are also improved seeing as how it implies the coordination between body and mind.
Sessions are structured in three different parts: we wake up our body, we take part in different activities and we calm down. This process is important because the main objective is that students should be aware of themselves through movement, relaxation, reflection and self-control and more importantly, it is done while having fun.
The social framework, within the group class, makes a great opportunity to work on values such as respect, effort, personal growth, comprehension, empathy and help. It also helps to unite the feeling of belonging to their class.
It is important to highlight that this workshop is taught in English. By doing so, students incorporate new vocabulary and grammatical structures in a natural and fun way through games and movement.
