1. Talk about the baby naturally.

Children feel more secure when they understand what is happening around them. Explain, in age‑appropriate language, what it means to have a new sibling, what newborns are like, and how daily routines might change. Encourage your child to ask questions, and respond with patience.

2. Involve them in the process.

Giving older siblings small responsibilities can help them feel important. They might help prepare the baby’s room, choose a toy, or think of a name. These simple actions reinforce their role within the family.

3. Acknowledge their feelings.

It is normal for children to experience a mix of emotions: excitement, jealousy, curiosity, or frustration. Let them know that all feelings are valid and that you are there to listen. This strengthens trust and supports emotional development.

4. Keep routines consistent.

Consistency provides stability. Try to maintain daily routines such as bedtime, playtime, or special one‑on‑one moments with each parent. Even short moments of focused attention can reinforce the bond.

5. Highlight the role of being an older sibling.

Share stories about their own early days, look at photos together, and remind them how you celebrated their arrival. This helps them understand that the new baby will also be welcomed with love.

6. Encourage shared moments.

Invite your child to interact with the baby in gentle, age‑appropriate ways—singing a song, showing a favourite book, or simply observing the baby together. These small moments can help build a meaningful connection.

For some time now, fashion about screen use have been changing. One of the most recent changes is to focus on more motor, experimental, creative and experiential aspects of pre-school education. As a result, technology and its use is relegated to later stages such as Primary and Secondary.  

Sometimes the reality in a family can be different, so we propose a few TIPS for reconciling technology and family.

1. Parental supervision: Supervise the time and content of screens according to the age of the child.

2. Selection of programmes: Choose educational content and encourage family dialogue.

3. Encourage other activities: Prioritise reading, outdoor play and sport.

4. Disconnection at mealtimes: Avoid the use of screens during meals and school activities.

5. Bedtime routine: No screen use at least two hours before bedtime.

6. Adult role model: Parents should model a balanced use of screens, especially at family moments.

It is important to educate in the good use of technology; denying its existence is not an option in an educational context.  Sooner or later, our students, your children, will get to know it, either through friends or in other circumstances. And they have to be prepared to deal with it.  So, within our educational work, we have the responsibility to teach them about the benefits and harms of the use of technology, be it mobile phones, laptops, ipads or other media, which open up a wide, unknown and not always safe world to them.

 There are a lot of places you can go and have a nice lunch under the trees watching the leaves fall: “El pantà de Vallvidrera” , “El parc de la Ciutadella”, “Laberint d’horta”, “Parc de Collserola”…  

What can we do? Playing is the best way they learn, so you can create a competition and ask them to look for red, yellow and brown leaves. Who took more? Who has the bigger leaf?  

It is important to always make them reflect, for example: “Why are there so many colors? The leaves are not green as always, why do you think is that for? Where did you find the leaves, on the floor or at the top of the tree?

Additionally, you can bring  leaves at home and do some crafts with them, as hanging mobiles for their room, bookmarks, use leaves as stamps with paint.

Creativity has no boundaries.
